LS-OPT

LSTC's LS-OPT

Livermore Software Technology Corporation's LS-OPT allows the user to structure the design process, explore the design space and compute optimal designs according to specified constraints and objectives. The program is also highly suited to the solution of system identification problems.

The graphical tool LS-OPTui interfaces with LS-DYNA and provides an environment to specify optimization input, monitor and control parallel simulations and post-process optimization data as well as viewing multiple designs using LS-POST.

LS-OPT Contains the following features:

  • A command language forms the basis for the description of the optimization formulation and process.

  • A preprocessor can be incorporated into the design cycle.

  • A comprehensive LS-DYNA interface allows access to the ASCII binary databases.   Minima, maxima and averages can be requested.  Response filtering can be used.

  • Special metal-forming criteria such as FLD have been developed.

  • Simulations can be run concurrently.

  • LS-OPT allows multi-case and multi-solver designs to be analyzed.

  • A successive approximation procedure allows refinement of the solution and convergence to an optimum

The LS-OPT program is currently available as a beta version on our ftp site for SGI platforms starting with IRIX version 6.2.

Using the command language, LS-OPT currently runs in batch mode.  A graphical user interface for input, job monitoring and post-processing is under development and is scheduled for release in the first quarter 2000.

LS-DYNA is not limited to any particular type of simulation. In a given simulation any of LS-DYNA's many features can be combined to model a wide range of physical events.
